Mock Summit
In order to make students aware about international diplomacy, G.D.
Goenka Public School, Sector 22, Rohini organized a mock international summit
on the theme of Sustainable Development on 24 December 2013.
Taking
forward the initiative under UN Decade for Education 2005-14, the project , 'I will Save my Planet' allowed students of class 11 to explore key issues and ideas related to
Sustainable Development such as climate change, disaster risk reduction,
biodiversity, poverty reduction, and sustainable consumption across different
developed and developing nations.
The students from Class 11 represented different countries
such as the USA, UK, India, Russia and China as delegates and presented their
views on issues. The summit started with an
introduction of the key idea, following which the student delegates reflected
on the measures and steps taken by the governments of different countries to address
the economic, social and environmental challenges to achieve sustainable
development.
The
event saw zealous and enthusiastic participation from students who indulged in
rigorous discussions and cross questioning. It was concluded by a pledge
wherein students as future leaders promised to voice out their concerns and
take a proactive role in addressing development issues related to the country.
